Film Transfer

The Process: This is how we do it.
No Outsourcing! Whether you drop off, mail-in, or have us pick up and deliver your project you can rest assured that we will not outsource your work and will transfer all your film in our studio in Center City Philadelphia. We understand that these are priceless memories and we pride ourselves on being a safe, local solution for film transfer.
High Quality. Once we have your project and your instructions, the transferring begins. In our studio we utilize a 3CCD progressive scan, broadcast quality camera that captures your film direct to our digital non-linear editing system. Our technicians monitor your project from start to finish and watch for over and underexposed sections. Our transfer service is guaranteed flicker free and will give you the most out of your film.
Organization: Whether you kept pristine order with your family memories or you have them randomly sitting in a bag somewhere, we can help. If your reels are numbered and labeled we will transfer them in order and upon request can even transcribe those labels into custom titles that will play on your DVD. If you don’t have your films quite so organized, we will number them for you and once transferred you can opt to sit in our studio with one of our technicians and rearrange them. Free Basic Editing After your transfer our technicians will scrub through your film to remove leader, over and underexposed film, and any other unwatchable sections so that you get the most out of your film.
Finalizing: Once we’ve transferred and edited your films it’s time to finalize. Whether you want your memories on high quality DVDs, or on your own external hard drive, Video City is happy to accommodate.
DVD - When we export your project to DVD, we utilize high quality printable discs that have universal playback. Our technicians set chapter indexes throughout your films so that you can skip forwards and backwards just like a professionally authored DVD. Once burned, we then create a custom label with images/stories/videocity that we extract from your film and print them right onto the surface of the disc. If you have a special message or label, we can type it right onto the surface of the DVD.
Hard Drive – Saving your memories on an external hard drive is great, and even preferable to DVD because it allows you to preserve your memories uncompressed. Though DVD is a very high quality standard, it is still a compressed version of your media optimized utilizing a very powerful codec. By transferring your films onto an external hard drive you can save your uncompressed film so that you can edit it later, or just review it at the highest quality possible. You can use a drive you already own or purchase one from us.
Need DVD Copies? As important as it is to preserve your memories, you need to be able to share them. With our low cost DVD duplication service it’s easy to make copies of your memories to share with your friends and family. Have a DVD burner at home? No problem, we won’t encrypt your DVDs with duplication limits so you can make as many copies as you like. Give us a call and we can even help you through the process.
Customization: We are firm believers that when it comes to preserving your memories, one size does not fit all. That’s why we offer custom add-ons like unique DVD labels, titles, music, studio editing and even voice-over commentary.
Custom Labels: When we export your film to DVD we extract frames from your film and print them onto the surface of your DVD disc. This is a service we provide at no extra charge and is a great way to personalize your memories.
Titles. This optional service is a great way to truly make your memories timeless. Our technicians will transcribe the labels from your reels into title screens that will introduce each one of your family films. Adding titles to your project allows you to not only preserve the images/stories/videocity, but also the memories.
Music: A great option for silent film is to add a soundtrack. Upon request you can add music to your project and help bring your memories to life.
Premiere Editing: Become the director and producer of your memories. At our Center City Studio you can sit down with one of our technicians and edit your memories. The sky’s the limit! You can make sure your clips are in chronological order, enhance images/stories/videocity through color adjustments, brightness and contrast, even add transitions and special effects.
VON – Voice-Over Narration – now with our VON service you can sit in our studio and actually create a DVD commentary for your films. This is an amazing way to let future generations truly relive your memories. Imagine your kids watching their first birthday with a commentary telling them who was in attendance, and funny anecdotes about the event.
Video Transfer
Your video tapes aren’t getting any younger, in fact, they are fading fast. VHS tapes have a 15 year average lifespan depending on the quality of the tape and the condition it was kept. Digitizing is more than just preservation: Transferring your audio tapes and records to digital not only preserves you media but also gives them added functionality. Photos & Slides
We provide high quality professional photographs and slide transfer, with free basic image editing and enhancement service. Whether you just want your images/stories/videocity preserved as timeless digital files that you can backup, share and re-print, or if you need a professionally produced montage video with titles, music, and transitions, we can help.
Why do it? Just like any of your analog media, your photos and slides will fade over time. Digitizing your memories will stop the deterioration and our enhancement services can even turn back the clock on faded colors and damaged prints. With digitized images/stories/videocity, you can now back-up, share, and re-print your priceless memories just like any picture you take with a digital camera.
Don’t just do it, do it right… Many people have personal scanners or find deals online that are so low priced they seem too good to be true. Unfortunately, photo and slide preservation done correctly is a very time consuming process, especially if you are just starting out. Proper preservation requires using the correct settings for high resolution scanning and image enhancement entails an in-depth knowledge in even basic photo editing programs. Some companies forgo these costs by cutting corners and scanning at low resolution. The problem is when you want to re-print or blow up your old images/stories/videocity you end up with pixilated and low quality prints.
The Process. This is how we do it. When we scan your photos and slides we use a high quality scanner that captures your images/stories/videocity at high resolution. Once captured to our system our photo editor goes image by image to crop and enhance each photo and each slide for optimal brightness, contrast, and color. Finally we export the images/stories/videocity to a CD, DVD, flash-drive, or external hard drive, depending on your preference.
Organization: With slide transfer digitization is only half the battle. As part of our process we will organize your media numerically. If you have multiple boxes or carousels we will organize the images/stories/videocity into separate folders that correspond to its respective box or carousel. We even offer an optional transcription service where we will reproduce the label from each slide and photo and attach the description to each digital file. Contact us for more information.
